In late December of every year, I start to think about my goals for the upcoming year and how I want to execute them. By the time January rolls around, I’m pumped and ready to kick these goals into high gear, and then life happens and by mid-February I haven’t put a dent into any of my goals, which of course discourages me and before long, I’m doing what I do every year and trying to catch back up.
This year I told myself that I would be different. That I will not do the same things I’ve done and expected new results. No, not this year. 2019 is going to be my year to be focused and change the habits that I did before so I can accomplish my goals.
Well, the only thing is how do you change what’s so common for all of us. Making Resolutions? This year, I decided to focus on one word for the entire year and let this word guide me while pursuing my goals.
I know, I know…one word? How does that help you achieve goals? I had to take the time to reflect over the last year. I thought about the goals that I accomplished and those that I didn’t. I realized that I didn’t commit to too many things. I said I wanted to do so much and I may have started but I didn’t finish. And I asked myself why? Why didn’t I finish?
After figuring out why I didn’t finish, I then set out to visualize the word that would resonate with my focus and determination to complete my goals. It wasn’t easy because nothing felt right at first, then I noticed that the same word kept coming up repeatedly, no matter how many times I said “that doesn’t work.” But it does work perfectly for the life I want to live.
My word for 2019 is Intentional. Meaning: Done on purpose; deliberate. It’s perfect. My goals were chosen deliberately and every goal has a purpose. This word was letting me know that it’s time to get stuff done on purpose. No more procrastination and then feeling bad later. It’s time for Intentional Living.
