Hey Curvy Crew,
I fell in love when I saw this Peace Sweatshirt with a retro feel from Old Navy. The Peace sign is what sold me. If you follow my videos on YouTube, then you know I end them by saying “Deuces” which is the Peace sign.
Not only was my ending to my videos the reason for purchasing this top but also the state of the country right now. I never shared this before, but earlier this year something happen to my family which made me think of how much we need Peace in this world.
On a Saturday morning, my mom and I were heading out to run errands. As we walked out the door and went to lock it, we noticed that someone wrote “nigger” on our door. Words cannot express my anger and shock that I felt in that moment. Most of all, I could see the hurt in mother’s eyes. My mom grew up in a time where this word was used daily and I could tell by her lack of a reaction just a hurt in her eyes that this moment was something that she thought wouldn’t happen again.
Peace among each other is something we should all be striving for right now. There should be no separation of ethnicities, financial statuses, where you live, the color of your skin, what language you speak or what religion you are. Love is the most important thing in this world and we should show each other love no matter what. Yes, people are different and will have a different opinions and different outlooks, but that is what makes this world so amazing. We can learn from each other and grow when we take the time to listen and not be so quick to react or speak.
Peace is the reason that I didn’t go ballistic and knock on every door in the apartment complex when I saw that word written on my door. I realized that someone was ignorant of the truth of African-American and even possibly feared us. Peace is the reason that I speak to everyone I encounter. Peace is the reason the I quietly shed a tear so often when I see tragedies happening in our communities and throughout the world.
Today, I encourage you to find the Peace the surrounds you and share that peace with a simple hello, holding the door open or helping someone in need. Let’s spread Peace one person at time and one-act at a time.
