We have a little over a month before summer comes to an end, but that’s okay because although summer is great and it’s my birthday season, I’m excited for fall.
Before we jump into sweater weather, let’s talk about some of my summer essentials that I’ve been loving all summer long. From haircare, makeup to skincare and I even slipped in a little Champagne. You can’t celebrate your summer birthday without a little libation.
It’s funny, as I started pulling my favorites from this summer, I noticed a color scheme happening. This was literally not on purpose but it works out and I love it!
Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlights Duo in Ginger Binge and Moscow Mule – With my dark complexion I found this highlighter Duo to be perfect for my undertones. It gives me just enough sheen to the high points of my face and the formula is amazing. It’s finely pressed, creamy and blends like a dream. Plus, I like to put a little on my décolletage and shoulders to give that over over warm rosy glow.
Loréal Paris Colour Riche in All Out Pout – I purchased this lipstick early August and it has become my go-to throughout the month so far. I pair it with the MAC Chestnut lip pencil and I achieve a perfect summer nude lip. The formula is matte yet it feels so creamy on the lips and has just enough peachiness to give my darker lips enough coverage and color.
Loréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise – This mascara has been in my collection for a while, but since I haven’t been wearing false lashes as much, I wanted a mascara that would give me volume with some length. This has definitely turned into my everyday mascara. It’s been perfect for work days, and in the evening if we are going out for happy hour, add another coat and you are good to go.
Buxom Divine Goddess Luminizer in Venus – In the summer, well all year…I just want to glow. I love when my skin has luminosity and looks healthy. To help achieve this during the summer, I mix a little of the Buxom Divine Goddess with my skin moisturizer and my skin pops! I’ve also tapped this onto my cheekbones and added the Fenty highlighter over it to really make my highlight stand out.
Morphe Highlighter Brush R36 – The moment I saw this highlighter brush, I know I had to have it. The shape and density of this brush is perfect for building up your highlighter and placing it with precision. Plus, it’s a Morphe brush and I’ve never been disappointed.
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Glow-Boosting Sheet Mask – During the summer your skin can suffer, from the sun, dryness, chlorine and salt water, so you have to give your face some special attention. One of my favorite ways to pamper myself is the Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask. This mask intensely hydrates, giving the skin a beautiful glow. It’s also nice way to pamper yourself after a long day in the sun and heat. I sometimes place mine in the fridge, especially now with the crazy heat wave LA is experiencing and my face not only gets the hydration but a nice cooling sensation.
Sephora Hydrating Shea Lip Mask – I’m constantly putting on lip balm to keep my lips protected in this summer weather, but another way to keep those lips kissably soft is to use the Shea Lip mask. The mask is enriched with shea butter and protects the lips from everyday elements and soothes dryness. After using this mask, my lips are softer and more nourished.
Soap & Glory- The Breakfast Scrub – In the summer, we wear shorter shorts, sleeveless tops and short dress, so it’s important that our skin is soft. One way that I’ve found to achieve great skin is to use a scrub and my favorite has been the Soap & Glory The Breakfast Scrub. First, it smells like maple syrup and the combination of Oats, Shea Butter and Sugar simply make your skin sing for joy. There is no shame wearing your shorts or dresses after you’ve scrubbed with The Breakfast Scrub.
Soap & Glory – Heel Genius Amazing Foot Cream – I’ve dealt with dry feet all my life and I never found a foot cream that truly did an amazing job until now. The Soap & Glory Heel Genius is definitely a genius product. If you’re wearing your cute sandals this summer and notice that after a couple of hours your feet are dry again, I’m encouraging you to try the heel genius. My feet are so moisturized and the formula seems to be helping my dry feet as I’m not noticing the dryness as much since using this product. It’s worth a try if you’ve dealt with dry feet like me.
Kinky-Curly Knot Today Natural Leave-in/Detangler – When I first went natural several years ago, Kinky-Curly was new on the market and my hair loved it, however being the product junkie that I am, I started trying other brands and never went back until now! Man…What was I thinking? This leave-in conditioner is one of my all time favorites. It’s light enough to not weigh my hair down, but heavy enough to give my hair the conditioning power that it needs. Since my hair is short, I’ve styled my hair using this product by itself and loved the results, but when you add the Curling Custard…You better look out because I’m feeling myself.
Kinky-Curly Original Curling Custard – I tried the curling custard in the past but I realize why it didn’t work for me then, I wasn’t using enough water. when my hair is saturated with water and I add the custard, my curls POP! I love it. The custard is not heavy and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling hard. It’s become my go to for my Wash-n-Go’s these days.
Chandon Rosé Champagne – What’s summer without a little celebration. I’m celebrating all month long since it’s my birthday month. One of my favorite ways to celebrate is popping a bottle of Champagne and toasting to life with friends and family. There is something special about this champagne. Friends bought me a bottle when I had a life transition and I’ve been stuck to this like glue ever since. I always keep a bottle a fridge because you never know when it may be time to celebrate someone or something!
What has been the one thing that you couldn’t live without all summer?
