I popped my wig cherry. Okay, that was a very bad joke…lol but I’m so excited to say that I finally wore a wig for the first time.
I’ve always been intrigued with wigs since I was a kid. I remember my mom wearing them and I played in them when I was not supposed to. Throughout my adulthood, I’ve found myself wanting to try a wig, but of course that little voice inside brings up all the reasons why I shouldn’t.
I was online recently and came across a video of a young lady trying on a $20 wig from Amazon and it looked good! She had to do a little manipulation but for the most part it was an easy and cheap way for me to experiment with something that I’ve been too scare to try.
I ordered the wig, hid it in my room until one day, I said F-it and pulled it out and followed the video step by step to make the synthetic wig look somewhat natural.
I fell in love the moment I finally had the wig look good. Now, would I order another $20 Amazon wig…maybe but it opened me up to purchasing other wigs in the future.
Alright, let talk about the specs of this wig. The company is K’ryssma on Amazon. The wig is Dark Brown Synthetic Wig, 24 inches long with a loose wave pattern. The wig also has a Right side part and is heat resistant up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit This wig is machine made, which is the reason it took a little manipulation to make it look somewhat natural. I’m working on editing the video to show you how I worked with this wig.
The wig arrived packaged in a black high quality plastic bag and within the bag the wig was inside of a large ziplock bag with a hairnet. Also included in the package were the care instructions and two nudish brown wig caps which I used, but will be purchasing brown wig caps to make the scalp appear more natural. I did have some shedding with this wig, but not enough to be too concerned. Because the wig is synthetic, after a couple of days of wear, I noticed that ends of the wig in the back started to tangle a lot. To help with this, I use a little hair oil and paddle brush to detangle, placed the hair into two braids and allowed to sit overnight, the next day the hair was perfect.
I loved making this $20 wig my first purchase because it allowed me to test drive several looks and see how to style and care for a wig. I’m excited to make my next purchase very soon. I’m already looking for a Birthday Wig!!
What tips do you use to keep your synthetic wigs looking good?
