You would think that finding the perfect Foundation would be easy with the array of brands, shades and finishes, but it’s not as easy as you may think, especially when you are dark skin. I recently picked up the Hourglass Vanish Foundation from Sephora. I was excited to try it out because I came across several pretty good reviews and YouTube videos. After picking it up and trying the foundation, I knew I wanted to share my results and thoughts with you.
A little background on the Hourglass Vanish Foundation. It’s a full coverage foundation and concealer in one, long-wearing, water proof that provides 12 hour coverage. It has a triangular shape, which is perfect for contouring and highlighting. The foundation is formulated to adjust to your body temperature to blend into the skin with ease. The foundation is not heavy on the skin at all, gives a very weightless feel, as though you’re not wearing foundation.
Size: 0.25 fl. oz
description: A long-wearing foundation stick with the coverage of a concealer, fluidity of a liquid, and weightlessness of a powder for the invisible full coverage. Paraben free, Sulfate and Phthalates free.
Thoughts on Coverage: The website states that the coverage is full, however I felt like it was light to medium coverage. The foundation is buildable, but to achieve full coverage, you will need to use a lot of foundation. As seen in the video below, I had to go back in and add additional product to the darker areas of my face. Blending was so easy using a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and Beauty Blender. I really could have just used the brush because of how easy it was to blend, but for the flawless look, I wanted to use the Beauty Blender.
Shades: I ordered the foundation online and was concerned about the color matching my complexion. I was very pleased when I received the product and noticed that it matched my skin very well. I don’t have to mix shades to achieve my look, which I was very happy about it. I could see myself purchasing a darker and light shades to use as a contour and highlight colors.
Wearability – The website states that the foundation can last up 12 hours and I have to agree. I usually head out to work around 7am and return home about 6:30pm, which is close to 12 hours. During the day, I rarely have to touch up and by the end of the day, I only noticed my smile lines, the rest of the face stays flawless.
My Experience: I love the foundation, but I noticed that you have to wait until your primer has settled into the skin. If you try to use the foundation too soon after applying primer, the foundation seems to have less pigmentation. Blending this foundation out is so easy and gives you a very nice finish. On the website, I didn’t see if the foundation stated if it had a matte, satin or dewy finish, but after wearing this a few times, on my skin the foundation has a satin like sheen. I love how lightweight it feels and this is quickly becoming one of my favorite foundation. My only drawback is the cost, for $46 you receive .25 fl.oz which doesn’t seem like much, but because the foundation blends out so well, a little goes a long way for light to medium coverage.
My Rating: On a Scale of 1-10, I’m going this product a 9! Although the website states that the Hourglass Vanish Foundation is full coverage, I think it’s more of a medium coverage foundation, but the real drawback is the price of the amount of product that you get.
Do you use the Hourglass Vanish Foundation? Do you love it or hate it?
